Vassbakken Inn and Camping
Midway between Skjolden and Fortun, in a lush valley surrounded by steep mountains, Vassbakken lies on the Sognefjellsvegen national tourist route. To the north, we border Jotunheimen National Park with Hurrungane and Turtagrø, a well-known area for climbing, skiing, summit tours and mountain hiking. The town of Skjolden lies at the end of Lustrafjorden, a fjord arm of the Sognefjord – the world’s longest fjord. The area also borders Breheimen National Park, with opportunities for hikes in lush stony valleys, impressive glaciers and barren high mountain terrain. An hour’s drive away is Jostedalen National Park with Nigardsbreen. In the Fortunselva you can fish for salmon and sea trout. There are also several interesting cultural monuments here, including Urnes Stave Church, which is Norway’s oldest stave church and is on UNESCO’s list of the world’s best-preserved cultural monuments.
Near Vassbakken Kro og Camping you will find cabins, buildings and tent sites in the shelter of beautiful birch trees. We have a campsite with 13 cabins of different standards and sizes , space for approx. 50 tents or caravans and sanitary facilities and a kiosk with a small selection of groceries. On site you will also find Skjolden Vandrerhjem with 23 newly renovated rooms . There is also a cozy inn with all dishes and serving traditional Norwegian food.

In the center of Skjolden you will find a shop with a post office and the multi-purpose building Fjordstova, with, among other things, an indoor swimming pool and climbing wall.
